From racing, themed dinners and holiday parties, to quiet summer evening raft-ups, there is always something going on at TSC!
AHOY Everyone,
Welcome to Spring, the best sailing time of the year. Shake the antifreeze out of your boats and get back out on the water. We had a fantastic sail last weekend - The Leprechaun Rally, in honor of St Patrick’s Day! The winds were westerly at 9 to 12 knots and the temperature was perfect. Our Race Captain, Barney Gulley, designed an exercise to improve our cruising skills. We prepared a Float Plan and followed it “to a T”. Dave Long and crew were the winners. They hit every selected time on the dot. Congratulation Dave! Following the rally, Rob Johnston and Erin Busk prepared a fabulous Irish dinner. It was delicious!
The next event, to take advantage of the near perfect weather, is the “Beat the Taxman Race” scheduled for April 1. This race is part of our TSC Championship Series. Afterwards we will have our “Poor Man’s Potluck” dinner at the club house. Come out and enjoy the fun.
On April 15, we will do a little spring cleaning at the club house in preparation for the Spring Regatta. Let’s all step up and spruce up our facilities. Afterwards, we will have a potluck Dock Party. Mary Nichols will send out more details shortly.
April 22 and 23 is our big event of the year - our Spring Regatta. It is open to all boats on the lake and surrounding marinas. There are two days of racing, socializing, and fun. Registration is on Friday with racing scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday night will be the big dinner at the Pavilion with a hamburger buffet prepared by the Point Restaurant. The Marina is chipping in to help launch and recover boats from the lake. Jason Cottingame will make the travel lift available to any racers ‘free of charge’. The Marina will also offer a ‘Regatta Special’ to haul out your boat and power wash the bottom. The price for this service is yet to be determined.
That just gets us through April. Check your calendars for the planned activities for May and June. There are plenty of opportunities for fun, racing, and comradery. You have to play to win and participate to enjoy. Hope to see everyone out for the adventures.
In closing, a special THANK YOU to those who make our events possible; Vice Commodore – Dave Long, Secretary - Mary Nichols, Treasurer - Judi Nitsche, Race Captain - Barney Gulley, Clubhouse Operations - Ted Robichaux, Webmaster - Janie Gulley, and Past Commodores - Nicole Spruill, Gary Witt and Pete Nitsche. And of course, THANK YOU to all who participate - it would not be the same without all of you.
As always, please reach out to me with any suggestions about upcoming Club activities or to volunteer!
Fair Winds Everyone,
Mike Meinhardt
